The Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program is the nation’s leading effort to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. By establishing strategic frameworks, the Lake and Geauga Drug Free Communities Coalition (LGDFC) aims to limit access to substances, change the culture and context within which decisions about substance use are made, and shift the consequences associated with substance use.
Through our education, awareness, and prevention efforts, we’re creating safe and drug-free environments and promoting mental wellness within the Berkshire and Cardinal school communities as well as all of the school districts within Lake County Communities.

Prevention refers to strategies, programs, and initiatives aimed at preventing substance abuse. These substances can include illegal drugs, prescription medications used without a doctor's prescription, and alcohol.
Effective prevention efforts focus on reducing the risk factors associated with substance abuse and promoting protective factors that support healthy development. These efforts should be comprehensive and involve collaboration between multiple stakeholders, including parents, schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
Taking care of ourselves and each other makes life better. It’s normal to struggle from time to time, and taking that first step can be hard. From local mental health groups to addiction recovery, these resources can help you and your loved ones along the way.
